PENNSYLVANIA ODYSSEY OF THE MIND

JUDGING REQUIREMENTS

Each team is required to provide trained judges for the regional competition

1. Long Term Judging: Each team is required to provide one judge who is trained in the long-term problem in which the team is competing.

2. Spontaneous Judging: Each team must provide a trained spontaneous judge.

All spontaneous judges (both new and experienced) are required to attend training !

Teams that do not have their judges trained at our training workshops and judge at our competition will receive a 25-point penalty charged to their long term raw score.

Judges Training: Both long term and spontaneous problems will be held in early February at a site to be announced. All spontaneous judges along with all new long term judges must report by 9:00am to the school cafeteria.

Experienced long-term judges will report to designated classrooms (posted outside of the cafeteria) by 11:00am. Training sessions will vary in time and judges will be dismissed by their problem captain. This training may last until 3:00pm. It is suggested that the judges bring a brown bag lunch.

Teams that win the regional competition (1st and 2nd place), will be required to bring their long-term judge to the state competition. The regional director will also ask for 10 trained spontaneous judges from the winning teams to volunteer for the state competition.

Registration: All team registrations must be completed by January 15th. Any teams that register after January 15th will be subject to a late fee of $50.00. All fees must be paid in order for any team to compete. No registrations will be accepted after January 25th.

Judging can only be as good as the quality of the judges that you send to us. Judges for the long term problem must read, and be very familiar, with the long term problem before coming to the training session. Both of your judges must read the rule book which is included in your registration packet. Judges must be kind, friendly, know how to smile and love children!

Regional competition is open for all to attend, observe, and enjoy. Please extend this invitation to parents and friends. Any questions; please call or email me.

Sincerely;

Deb Barnes
